Gobble Gobble Gobble ~ Plump Turkeys are we...

The closer we get to the Holidays, the more nostalgic I get. The above title comes from a song my Nana used to sing every year at the Thanksgiving Table. I don't know what its about or where it comes from ~ I'm sure she made it up, spur of the moment at the table. But, it stuck. So much so that 40 years later we, my sisters and brother (there are 5 all together), still sing it. My own children sing it now. Family is wonderful. Remember that. Not to say that they don't drive you nuts, irritate you, or simply @#$* you off. They do - no doubt. But, they are always the first ones you call just to talk, complain, laugh, cry or ask for help.

They are the ones to do something completely inappropriate in front of your kids (shooting olives out their noses at the table) and it still makes you laugh. Do things you don't let anyone else do (throwing food on the floor to your pet hoards) and telling tales of things best never brought up again (the time you were on pain meds for pulled wisdom teeth and thought there was a ghost in your room so you ran downstairs half naked into a livingroom full of people). And yes, that did actually happen to me (but I don't remember it).

So, in the spirit of the Holiday~ Eat some pie, watch some football, make up a crazy little ditty about some overweight birds, and remember to keep that wine glass full ~ but most of all ~ Enjoy each other and be Thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving ~ Dee

  4. For those of you in blog land that do not recognize that catchy little ditty - that is the first runner up in the bizarre songs category that our Nana made up at Holiday tables. I forgot about that one....I know I know....who could forget that? Thanks for reminding Heidi.

  5. Unless your Nana knew our Memére, it's not likely that Nana made the song up. We sang this at our home in the early 1940's and learned it from Memére.
