Let me preface this post by saying that a quiet afternoon is rare. Rarer than rare ~ they practically never happen. So, when the stars align perfectly and the family is out somewhere else (who cares where) it is a treat and a half to say the least.
My favorite thing to do when my big old house is quiet, is hide in the front living room. Its formal in a welcoming way. Rich dark reds, overstuffed camelback sofas and lots of books and mirrors. I use this room about as often as I get a quiet afternoon. Anyway, I make a big pot of Earl Grey tea (Harney's Winter White of course) and settle down with my latest magazine or a fun ghost story. Seriously, I love ghost stories all year round. Good, classic ghost stories, not the cheesy slasher types. I listen to the wind rustle the leaves outside and slowly savor the moment. This will last about 20 minutes...tops...before the phone inevitably rings. Unless I am smart enough to remember to take it off the hook. Even Calvin & Hobbes are about as happy as 2 cats can get ~ Chesca, my sweet girl has slunk away upstairs to nuzzle under the blankets to enjoy her own quiet time.
A lovely ruffled rose teapot & creamer ~
This teacup set is perfect and simple ~
As long as Im treating myself like a Queen ~ I should go all the way don't you think?
Enjoy a perfectly lovely White Wednesday and try and grab some quiet time for yourself ~

I was tucked away on the porch myself this morning, but without the quiet. Big thunderstorms. Still so very restful. Glad you were able to have a private tea party.
