Goodbye my sweet boy

Calvin
Calvin

Didn't I just write about him yesterday? Wasn't he just with me outside, chasing his brother, taunting baby birds? How did it happen so fast? He was only 3 years old. We were hoping when the new neighbors moved in across the street with 5 dogs, that they would stop crossing the road. And they did. For a little while at least.  Today, Calvin didn't make it back.

An indoor only cat was never an option with these 2. They came from a hoarding situation of over 100 cats in a 2 room apartment, when  they were rescued and we adopted them. When we first brought them home - the space was too much for them. They would balance on tall shelves and curtain rods because that is what they were used to, in a room with 100 other cats. They needed to know what it was like to be free, outside, and they loved it.

Im sorry I don't write as eloquently as some bloggers do at times like this. My heart is broken. I was hoping if I write about it, I may begin to feel less numb. I don't. I don't know if I ever will. He wasn't old, he wasn't sick. I will miss everything about him. His bad breath, the huge hairballs he had in the winter, the way he would breathe so loudly, like snoring, the way he pawed my face to tell me he loved me.

Goodbye my sweet boy ~ I love you too.

It took me a few weeks to even look at this post again.  Im hoping it will give me some closure to post it.

  1. I'm so sorry about your sweet boy, Dee. We had to put our sweet boy down last summer and it was the most difficult thing.

I hope you get feeling better soon. God gives us these special little furbabies for such a short time and they touch our lives in such a tremendously large way.

You did the right thing. I just can't believe that someones dogs would do such a thing... My dogs would NEVER.....my thoughts are with you...try and have a good weekend

    Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

  4. I'm so sorry. It is such a loss when we lose a pet. We had to put our special cat of 18 years to sleep recently and it so heartbreaking. How wonderful of you to have rescued him and given him a wonderful life of freedom outdoors to play and lie in the sun.

  11. Oh Dee my heart breaks for you. Coming from one that has lost too many I know how it feels. We feel so helpless to save them. They want to be free and enjoy being outdoors but with that comes many dangers
Calvin will always live in your heart.

Sending this from my phone.....no internet today.....uggh

  12. Sorry for the passing of your dear cat. I had a cat that was the neighborhood delight. He was welcome to visit and nap in all the houses. Some people outside of our court had a pit and that dog chased my cat all the way home and snapped at him all the way. He didn't make it. We had him for over 15 years. In fact the cat found us and never left. He would sit in the tree so his name was Checher. It's always sad to lose a pet. Hope your sorrow will be over soon. Enjoy remembering the good times.

  13. Words can never express the emotions at this time of grief - but just know that you gave him the freedom which was well deserved and the love that was much needed.

  14. Dear Dee,

I am so sorry that my condolences are so belated. I think your post was eloquently written -- you spoke straight from the heart and your words touched mine. I'm happy Calvin was saved from those horrible living conditions and got to experience the love of a human and security of a good home.

    Your Friend,
    Deborah
